My Hereos Have Always Been Junkies is the first standalone graphic novel by the creators of my favorite gritty crime comics (including the ongoing Criminal series, The Fade Out, recently concluded Kill or Be Killed, and Fatale (a fabulous combination of cosmic horror and and hard-boiled noir). Although this story stands alone, like all the other tales created by Brubaker and Phillips, this is not a place to look for a happy ending. Tightly plotted with terrific art & coloring. Nine out of ten doctors recommend Brubaker/Phillips as an important part of one’s graphic novel literary diet. Two people, Ellie and Skip meet at rehab and they fall in love. Ed Brubaker. Its a little more drama than crime noir. My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies is original, nuanced, and right at home with other works from these creators.

I was craving a little more out of the story but still worthwhile.

The art and writing are on point. The writing is remarkable.

Rehab, drugs, fantasies about the creative folks who achieved success and imagination with drugs, sneaking around, breaking in.

I believe I read it in one sitting, it actually can feel a bit short. Like comic books? Definitely dont go into this expecting action or crime like their previous novels.My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies is a small hardcover comic from the pairing of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.Who do really good stuff and this is also really good. Although this story stands alone, like all the other tales created by Brubaker and Phillips, this is not a place to look for a happy ending.
They know that consequences are going to be huge and they decide to escape. Definitely worth a buy. Like all great noir, this story is devastating. Those same men can hurt Leo, the man who helped Ellie after her junkie mother died.

I have no idea if Brubaker takes drugs or not, I'm assuming h doesn't, but I liked the fact you couldn't hear his opinion on the matter, he left it to the reader.This wasn't as bad as I thought based on reviews I've seen on here.

Quick, dirty, soulful, and completely satisfying. As with their other offerings, Brubaker and Phillips excel at making the characters feel real to the reader.

This book is short—it took me less than 45 minutes to read, and I took it in at a leisurely pace. There is a fantastic catalog of literary art to explore. You won't be disappointed. Welcome back. Brubaker is as intriguing as always here, keeping you turning the page. Do mesmo universo de Criminal

Exceptional work just continues for this duo. The art is perfect, really one of my fave artists doing what they do best.
