If you want a quiet, relaxing, upscale, get away from it all experience this is the place to go in northern California. The excitement generated is quiet, seldom rambunctious or slam bang. !We stopped at the McCloud Hotel on the way to California for a road trip 2020 and it was a nice surprise. The en-suite bathroom was lovely and clean with bath tub and shower. Their prior days owning and managing a similar place back east are immediately evident.My husband and I both really, really liked this place. When your steak came back to the kitchen it did not look as if it has been cut into. The new owners are very pleasant and accommodating and have made few changes. Early evening complimentary wine and snacks were offered to us. We lounged, relaxed, did some reading, then enjoyed the huge jetted tub! Yes, the hotel is old - it is on the National Register and has a wonderful history of being the lodging for the bachelors that mined in the area - McCloud was a 'company town' and seeing the original structures, including homes for married employees and management, is in itself intriguing.

There are not alot of restaurants in the town of McCloud, so we took a short drive into Shasta and enjoyed seeing their nice little town.This was our second visit to this historic hotel.
